Internet

Interesting piece by Anthony Townsend on municipal wireless touching on some issues which are too important to ignore. For us here in the Netherlands the whole debate is pretty much moot seeing as we do not have any worthwhile wireless initiatives anywhere.

I’m getting increasingly frustrated with COREBlog the Zope based blogging software that runs this show.

If you are web developer you should already have installed Firebug because it makes life so much easier for the DOM/CSS/JavaScript programmer. Get it now (I mean it!) from addons.mozilla.org.

I heard Plazes can make you famous, so I thought I’d give it a whirl.

Hurray for Google making up for all the shoddy work Microsoft has done on their browser. IE7 is coming out soon with a lot of fixes, but still not quite up to par with the rest of the civilized browser world.

I’m attending the Magnus ‘Power to the People’ seminar this Thursday in Amsterdam. The theme of this seminar fits in perfectly with my Masters project and I thought it would be good to get out and meet some new people, exchange some ideas.

Katie recently announced (Upcoming, Macwereld) on April 21st. CocoaDevHouse is an Amsterdam incarnation of similar popular unconferences across the world.

Shit, weer niet genomineerd…

Thank god Google has remembered how to make useful stuff. The Safe Browsing extension (which is going to be integrated into Firefox proper) is something that users —especially naive ones— can really benefit from via.

Every week I get a mailing from Filmhuis Lumen —my favorite art house theatre— with their movie schedule in it. I was entering them into my iCal as events when I got bored with the repetitivity and the obsolesence of the task.

Great presentation (PDF) by Tom Coates of Yahoo! A nice big collection of Web 2.0 concepts and ideas. I especially love the style of presenting.

Mijn leuke nieuwe gave GSM is stuk.

Replacing the previous monstrosity with a new one. I’ve got a new portal page. Utterly unusable and not tested in IE but soit.

The browser wars have returned in earnest. Firefox market share has been growing steadily and it is making inroads in Internet Explorers market with a superior product, aggressive marketing and a loyal fanbase.

Adium is the best ever Instant Messaging client I have ever used. It looks nice and works well all over the board. And you have to love the Link Duck Dock Icon.

Recently there has been a barrage of negative news about Wikipedia with class action law suits, various individuals editing their own biographies, false fact injections offset by the news fact that Wikipedia is pretty good compared to Encyclopedia Britannica (and that Dutch Wikipedia compares similarly to the Winkler Prince).

Europe is indeed a relative backwater in the wireless revolution. Quote Cory: “locked down, overpriced and metered”.

Asa is terecht boos.

What!? First Flickr and now Yahoo! buys del.icio.us as well? It pretty much comes down to all my favorite sites being bought by them.

It seems to be slightly impossible for me to select items from a HTML control using the keyboard.

I was reading this article on the future of web technology. It gives a good overview of the current state of technology, future directions and a two way consolidation which I hope is going to take place.

Being at a different location and not having WiFi internet available (like at my parents’ place) is seriously disturbing. There was a wireless network within range but it was password protected.

I am currently reading the book “The Internet and Society” by James Slevin which went off to a rough start but which I am getting into more and more.

You probably would not have noticed, but I installed Explorer Destroyer on the front page. Most regular visitors of these pages do not use IE, most people stumbling by via Google or another search do use it.

Read two more papers on the subject.

I am currently following a course on internet technology aptly named “Internet Technology”. The contents of the course are unfortunately horribly outdated and detached from reality.
